SEO:
- Attracts customers to the web-site. The share of customers referred from the search engines can be as high as 90%.
- Targets the right audience. Your web-site is shown to people who are searching for a specific business.
- Saves money. If the web-site is optimised to be in the search results of the relevant queries except the most popular ones, the search engine optimisation may turn out to be a very cost-effective solution.
However, there are three things to remember about SEO. - Effect and efficiency are not the same thing. SEO is such a popular method that many companies pay a fortune to be among the first results for the most popular queries. However, this makes sense only if it pays off. It may turn out that the cost of new customers attracted by expensive search optimisation may be well above reasonable limits.
- Black hat SEO methods should not be used. There is a number of methods that are considered by the seo community as inappropriate or fraudulent. Often these methods give impressive results but as soon as the search engine finds out that inappropriate methods were used, the web-site is excluded from the search results.
- Results do not last for long. Unfortunately, it's impossible to achieve high results that will stay forever due to the ongoing changes in search algorithms and the activity of the competitors. Therefore, after a few months the achieved position in search engine results may go down. In order to be constantly among the leaders in your segment, you should consider the SEO as an ongoing process rather than as a one-off action.
